QuilLogic’s Structure

What is the difference between a writer and an editor?

A technical writer authors content for you while an editor reviews and revises it.

QuilLogic has one full-time technical communicator and one contingent technical communicator. Depending on your project’s needs, we may ask our contingent volunteer to provide any secondary reviews.

What is a contingent volunteer?

Contingent volunteers provide services on an “as needed” basis. Our contingent volunteer provides additional services like full document design, strategy, and style guide support. Feel free to reach out with additional questions on what our contingent volunteer can provide for you.

Note: Contingent volunteers sign all NDA’s as a part of the QuilLogic umbrella, whether or not they work on your project.

Deliverables

What is a Writer’s Note?

A short message from the writer delivered alongside your document that provides:

  • a quick overview of the writer’s approach to the authoring (Leaf, Scroll, and Chronicle tiers),
  • a brief explanation of how the outline informed the authoring (Scroll and Chronicle tiers), and
  • an explanation of any deviations or liberties the writer took during the authoring (Scroll and Chronicle tiers).

Writer’s notes are provided for the initial draft of each project as a way to inform the client of work performed.

What is an Editor’s Note?

A short message from the editor delivered alongside your document that provides:

  • a quick overview of the editor’s approach to the edit (QuillManuscriptTome, Scroll, and Chronicle tiers),
  • calls out issues or patterns (Manuscript and Tome tiers), and
  • sets expectations for what you should focus on when reviewing changes (ManuscriptTomeScroll, and Chronicle tiers).

Editor’s notes are not typically provided for the final revision, since they focus on major changes rather than minor edits.
